Our missions goal is 'helping others to reach their God-given potential'. In 2009, we partnered with and supported six missions activities (see our flyer):
Background - Australian Christian Churches (ACC) World Relief's work in Vietnam is alleviating poverty amongst poor communities in central Vietnam through education, training, income generation and health improvements.
Support - Paul and Deb Hilton have been working in DaNang as directors of AOG World Relief Vietnam for the past 11 years. Their effective community development work and ministry has brought them much respect throughout the South East Asia region. For more information on their work, visit www.accworldrelief.org/community-development/aog-world-relief-vietnam.
Outcome - In 2008, AOG World Relief completed activities including:
-
Educational Scholarships for 1,165 children from poor families
-
Providing clean water to 1,273 school students, reducing waterborne disease
-
Providing 345 families with livestock and training so they can generate income and transition out of the poverty cycle.
In August 2008, eight members from National Capital Church (NCC) visited Da Nang and helped with support work. Examples of how we can support work in Vietnam:
-
Water & Sanitation: Your support provides essentials such as fresh water and improved sanitation which will make a profound difference in the lives of many people.
-
Income Generation: Purchase a pig for a family and double their entire income.
-
Education & Training: Sponsor a ShineGirl Vietnam training session and see the lives of thousands of young women changed as they realise their true value and destiny.

Background - Parliamentary Prayer Network (PPN) began in 1993 after a small group of people gathered to pray in Parliament House. Since then hundreds of churches and organisations receive an (electronic) prayer mail and thousands pray for our leaders in groups large and small across the nation.
In 2003 PPN launched a Schools Programme which partners Christian Schools with their local members and senators. These schools pray for their members and senators on a regular basis and build relationships with them.
Support - Members and supporters of PPN pray for all levels of government, their families and staff, regardless of their political or religious persuasion. The work of PPN is well regarded in the Parliament. PPN also believes God will raise up prayer networks to cover legislatures of nations around the world. More information about PPN is available at www.ppn.org.au.
Outcome - Prayers covering all Parliaments in Australia: Federal, State and local.
Background - Run by Samartian's purse, Operation Christmas Child is a unique project involving giving gift-filled shoe boxes to bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world. It shows children, most of whom have never received a gift from anyone, that they are loved and have not been forgotten.
Support - It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple but hands-on project that has the power to transform children's lives, to give them hope for a better life.
Outcome - In 2009, teams in Australia and New Zealand delivered over 300,000 gift-filled shoe boxes to South East Asia and the South Pacific. Globally, Samaritan's Purse distributed an estimated 7.6 million shoe boxes to children Samaritans in 105 countries without regard to the race, creed, gender, religion or ethnicity of the beneficiaries.
National Capital Church in 2009 gave 39 gift-filled shoe boxes to children in Vietnam as a lasting reminder that he or she is precious to God.
News Flash - This year, NCC will participate in this program again. Gift boxes must be returned by the end of October 2010. For more information, visit www.samaritanspurse.org.au/occ_08_index.shtml
Background - Kids Hope Aus is a mentoring program that helps at-risk Australian children and their families. Through a partnership between local churches and primary schools, Kids Hope Aus works to improve opportunities for mentored children in the areas of education, self confidence and wellbeing. World Vision's Kids Hope Australia assists churches to recruit and prepare caring mentors for ongoing mentoring relationships with vulnerable children. Churches are responsible for appointing a paid coordinator (salary or honorarium) to run the program with the assistance of World Vision.
Support - For one hour each week, a caring adult from the church, mentors an at-risk child at their school. This usually involves helping the child with homework, playing games, arts and crafts, or just spending time together. For more information, see www.worldvision.org.au/ourwork/Solutions/KidsHopeAus.aspx.
Outcome - Positive human relationships are essential for children to grow up happy and healthy. Yet many Australian children lack significant close relationships with a caring adult, other than their parents. Children who receive help early on, especially those considered vulnerable and at-risk, significantly improve their chances for a good education, health and wellbeing, and social competence.
News Flash - Training programs for mentors. Do you want to get involved? Contact Pastor Gloria and ask about a training program for mentors.
Background - The Haggai Institute seeks out influential leaders in developing countries that are resistant to Western Missionaries. Life-changing leadership training is then offered and provided at Haggai centres in Singapore or Maui. These leaders return home with advanced leadership skills and a commitment to train 100 other Christian leaders in their country. To find out how you can become involved, visit www.haggai-institute.com.
Support - The Haggai Institute relies on donations to provide leadership training.
Outcome - In most Middle East countries, the Gospel cannot be preached, however the Haggai Institute has been involved in the training of over 12,000 leaders in these Middle East countries. It has provided training for leaders in over 180 countries. NCC has contributed towards the training of one leader.
